Restoration of the nut of a bow s. XIX Vuillaume style
An interesting arch perhaps left the workshop of Master J.B.Vuillaume (1798-1875), and that presented a serious wear and loss of decorative mother-of-pearl eyes.
After successive rehairs, the interior of the walnut was so deteriorated that there was not enough wall to accommodate new eyes and the existing ones were in the air.
This complex restoration involved the following steps: -To disassemble and clean the piece thoroughly. -Recompose the bottom of the shroud and the interior walls with ebony sheets.
-Install the new eyes and work them to adapt them to the curvature of the outer surface of the nut. -Pulse the whole to restore the luster. -Rehair the bow again.
